364753 2005-06-17 13:26:00 Hello fellow genuiii,

When AVG does it's virus scan thing on boot-up (small blue screen) it takes about a second but if I choose to do a virus scan once windows (98se) has loaded it takes about half an hour. This is a puzzle to me. Is it because of a "window's has loaded" thing or what? Like is it like a safe mode element in that the scan is easier when less is running".

364755 2005-06-17 20:12:00 A boot-up scan scans just essential boot and/or system files that are needed to start the OS. Once you start Windows and do a scan, it scans all the files that are identified to be scanned (probably all files?), rather than just boot/system files, and so will take a lot longer as there are many many more of them.
