| 365113 | 2005-06-18 23:30:00 | I thought I understood this, but I'm being slowly driven insane... I want to change Word's Normal.dot, something I've done several times before. I navigate to Normal.dot, make the changes I want, and save. Now: In Word, a new document comes up with the default settings, as if I'd made no changes at all. However, when working from Explorer: Double-clicking Normal.dot yields the same result, ie the unwanted default settings BUT if I right-click and select Open, I open the saved Normal.dot, with my changes - the one I want Word to use. Any suggestions? I'm using XP Home, Word 2003 |

| 365114 | 2005-06-18 23:58:00 | Usually when I want to make changes to the default Word normal . dot template I open a new Word document and make my changes from the menu dialogue box . For example, if I want the default font to be Arial instead of TNR I go to the Format > Font dialogue box, change the font type and perhaps the size then press the Default button in the dialogue box to apply it to the normal . dot file . Another way is to make all the changes in a new document and Save As the file, choosing Document Template in the "Save as type" drop down box and choose the Normal . dot file . New documents should then open with your chosen defaults . |
