364757 2005-06-17 12:54:00 Hi all

I have a quick query. I am on the 10GB Telecom Xtra Broadband plan. It says the speed will be throttled back if I exceed 10GB. Last month I did 15GB and the speed wasn't throttled. Does anyone know if they are actually able to throttle it (or whether they do) or is it full speed ahead and download as much as you want?

Interested to hear from anybody that knows.

Thanks.

364758 2005-06-17 22:22:00 ive been on the same plan since dec and ive never had my speed lowered. wat i reccomend is keeping below 10gig until close to the end of your internet month, then download as much as you want. my internet month ended last weekend so i downloaded 20 gigs extra :)

Make sure your not on the swift plan though. Check the plan descriptions on the jetstream site if your unsure on what i mean.

364760 2005-06-18 05:21:00 I am (sadly) only on the 1gb plan, but last month was able to top 10gb with no speed reduction whatsoever.

364762 2005-06-18 07:57:00 I am on the Explorer plan (256k with a 3GB cap) and download about 7GB each month without being slowed down. :) maccrazy (6741)
364763 2005-06-18 11:05:00 They can cap you, but heaps of people are getting away with exceeding their download limit. The only reason I can think of for capping some people, but not others is that they are still in the process of rolling out whatever hardware/software they use for capping people. All my friends were able to go 3x over their data cap without getting their speed capped for ages, but now they all get their speed capped if they exceed their data cap.

While writing that, I thought of another explination - they might only be capping repeat offenders.

I know a guy who works for Telecom and they say that they can only cut back the speed manually..... They DONT have the technology yet to throttle it!!!

So enjoy the speed while it lasts, they say some time next year they should have the technology developed!!

Probably why i dropped back to a 1Mbit/1GB plan and just go mad on downloading! LOL

SO USE ALL YOU LIKE!!

364765 2005-08-21 06:02:00 If you abuse the system they well. I know someone who was constantly exceeding his 10gig a month, sometimes useing it up in the first week. After that they had them throttled back almost from the start of their billing period.

I have been throttled back on some occasions and not on others. One month I got 25GB and another I barley got over the 10GB before it slowed. Depends on the time of billing pattern. If you are close to the end then they don't seem to do it but if you have plenty of days left then they do.
