365551 2005-06-20 22:55:00 I have PCCillin running on Windows XP Pro, and back up my data each day to an external hardrive. Pccillin has found the file Getmirar.A on my external hardrive, in the system volume information (followed by a lot of letters and numbers). It cannot get rid of it (found it 10 times now) and I can't find it manually. The scan result says 'denied access'. How can I make it go away - any help appreciated. Thanks, Heather. Fair (7559)
365552 2005-06-20 23:00:00 thats in your system restore folder.........you need to delete all restore points to get rid of it..........controlpanel/system/systemrestore tab......then clik the settings button then follow the prompts then restart............NOTE: this WILL delete ALL system restore 'points' drcspy (146)
365553 2005-06-20 23:04:00 I would turn system restore off first. And also do this in safe mode.

Then follow the steps here, if u know how to use the registry.

labs.paretologic.com

This program wont remove it unless u register.

Or get the trial of this www.simplysup.com

It looks like it can remove it.

365554 2005-06-21 00:24:00 well since the problem exists in the system restore folder only then running some program after deleting the sysetm restore points is kinda 'pointless' lol.......the offending files will be gone simply by turning off system restore and that deletes all files within those folders therefore: problem solved with no further action required.... drcspy (146)
365555 2005-06-21 01:10:00 As it's just snuck onto my external HDD which is only for backups, and I have done a system backup onto it in the past (had the full blown Mirar before, and had to format the C: drive to make it go away) so am assuming (hoping :stare: ) that any techie registry stuff won't be necessary. I have turned off system restore for that drive only, and deleted all previous system back up files as they are non-essential. Hopefully that will do it, I'll let you know tomorrow, as the message seems to pop up every morning.

About the system restore, is it a good idea to turn it off for all drives?

Thanks for your help
Heather

365556 2005-06-21 01:27:00 If its on all hard drives, I would turn system restore off on all hdd's.

Get rid of it and turn system restore back on after.

365557 2005-06-21 02:27:00 No, it's only on the external box. So it is better to leave system restore turned on then for all the other drives? Fair (7559)
365558 2005-06-21 02:39:00 Yup cant see why u cant turn the one hdd off, and then turn system restore back on after. Speedy Gonzales (78)
