366188 2005-06-23 03:17:00 I guess these are all faked, but I did see a genuine video recently of a guy who semi-dismantled an old laptop so that he could put the transparent LCD screen onto an overhead pojector, and created a pretty effective, pretty cheap video projector. iansmcdonald (6977)

An IBM engineer thought of this and sucessfully modified a new ThinkPad once. I'm not sure whether IBM produced any for sale, but it was a reasonable idea. Such panels to work with an OHP were commercially made before projectors became popular: came in a neat briefcase with a cable to connect to any PC. I've got one, but it's missing the cable. (Unfortunately it needs a very unusual high density -- 3 row like a DB15HD VGA -- 26 pin DB plug).

366192 2005-06-23 06:45:00 It's a lift from today's "Langa List". Here is how it is done:

The gist is that someone got the idea to take a picture of their desk without their computer monitor, then with some adjusting, set that image as their background image. Then, they took another picture of the desk, this time with the monitor showing the previous image. The result? A "transparent" monitor.

Just a bit of clever image work for you to try to emulate if you have a spare week or two on your hands.

Cheers
