366149 2005-06-22 09:15:00 I want to try something out, but need my video to be in WMV format. Is there a quick easy way of converting an avi to a wmv file? And free?

Thanks,
Mike.

Now called Nero Digital, it can read both AVI, and WMV, and burn either to DVD. Only thing is, I think u need the plugin for the DVD option.

366151 2005-06-22 11:24:00 I think you can use Windows media player to convert avi to wmv.

It's a free download version 2.1 from microsoft update (says it comes with XP SP2 update), or you can download version 2 from freeware sites without the drama. (about 11mb?)

I think you need to be running XP to use it though.

Google for:
Windowx Media Encoder

366155 2005-06-22 23:32:00 Windows Media Encoder gets my vote too.
A really good program that has alot of features.

As an example, besides its great encoding abilities, is that it can capture your screen as a video file with audio. I've used it to make some tutorials on how to use yahoo messenger, how to defrag, how to use FireFox etc, etc and emailed them over to my mum in oz whos new to computers.
