I suppose I could give this manual ip address thing a go.
I still recon that Nortons is doing something even when it's switched off.
Wish things didn't turn to custard at such a critical times.
Thanks for your input guys.
P.S
DHCP ?

365838 2005-06-26 08:15:00 Hey I have got the internet going again on both P.C's but not really by changing anything. It seems that when I start the "other P.C" first that it registers with the net. Is this something to do with the machines automaticly assigning an I.P address? & with that said although they both can access the net, they can't access each other. :waughh: Ron Bakker (356)
365839 2005-06-26 09:34:00 Is your Workgroup name the same for both computers? pheonix (36)
365840 2005-06-26 19:56:00 Yep Ron Bakker (356)
365841 2005-06-27 09:31:00 they both can access the net, they can't access each other. :waughh:
I just remembered how I fixed that problem way back when I was running 2k. I never really found out what the problem was, but I found a workaround that fixed it.

Enable your guest account & make sure all the folders & shares you want the other computer to access allow access to guest (I think the default security settings allow access). Run gpedit.msc & look for the entry "anonymous users authenticate as guest" & enable it.

365842 2005-06-28 08:44:00 I shall try that, thanks Ron Bakker (356)
365843 2005-07-23 20:44:00 After all that I found that the NetBEUI protocol was not installed which is why the 2 P.C's were not talking to each other.

Yes Billy I agree, when something goes wrong, one should not rush to wip out the blame thrower. But every time I have ever reformatted the comp I have done it the same & each time the finished product is always slightly different.

Thanks for the help guys
