366215 2005-06-23 02:30:00 My mouse has adopted an anoying habit of sometimes jumping to another part of the screen, sticking at a spot on the screen or ocassionally freezing so that I have to reboot.

It is a Microsoft Intellimouse, optical sensor, and has given great service over, I guess, a couple of years. I am running XP Home.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I do not have much more hair to tear out.

Pat.

366216 2005-06-23 02:33:00 Just a novice here but first trick is to try another mouse so you can tell if it's the mouse or something else..........m

Don't know if optical mice need cleaning? Only ever had rollerballs but maybe optical mice can get cataracts.HTH.....m

366217 2005-06-23 02:38:00 use a different mouse pad, thats what i did and it fixed it, because the graphic on it was making it jump, and its not the best thing when your trying to work in photoshop lol Codex (3761)

They can be cleaned, the bottom can get grubby and block the light. The surface its on should be clean. And yes, the mouse pad surface can have an affect. One of mine hates my desk - the other doesn't care. A piece of paper works well. But that wouldn't cause it to freeze, jump yes, freeze no.
Try another mouse as has been suggested to eliminate if it has a problem.

366219 2005-06-23 03:04:00 are you sure its a mouse problem?

quite often its the pc thats freezeing/glitching. can you use the pc ok without the mouse ?

366220 2005-06-23 03:14:00 Thanks very much for your valuable suggestions. Tried a new mouse and it is working fine at the moment. As the mouse was freezing at times I am inclined to think the suggestion the PC is giving trouble may be correct. In the meantime I have my fingers crossed. This makes typing more difficult though.

Grateful thanks, but I shall come grizzling again if the problem persists.
Where do I go if it is a PC problem?

God bless,
Pat.

366221 2005-06-23 03:20:00 have a look at what programs/processes/services are running in the background. most often its simply to many things running (includeing spyware or virus) or a certain app thats hogging the pc. hopefully its only a software issue and not hardware ie motherboard.

if your not sure what is ment to be running then download highjackthis (www.majorgeeks.com), run it and post the log here.

366222 2005-06-23 04:56:00 Thanks Tweak'e.
I have taken advantage of your offer and post the log here.
Below this there are some 60 items headed O1 -O23 which I have not listed here for the sake of brevity. But I do have the log. An interesting exercise for me, a learner.

God bless,
Pat.

Sorry, but it is vital that you post the entire log without any part of it missing. The parts you have deleted are just as important as what you have posted, if not more so.

Please also make sure that you have no programs running when you scan with HJT.

366224 2005-06-23 05:21:00 The entire log is actually needed, including those 01 - 23 items.

The additional missing part is the critical bit in many ways
