| 366863 | 2005-06-25 01:31:00 | hi. when ever i close outlook express it kicks into a compact mode and goes on and on without stopping. i have to use the ctl+alt+del command and then end task command to get it to stop. how do i fix this?? thanks. | paulb (1103) | ||

| 366865 | 2005-06-25 03:58:00 | I don't know, but it might not stop doing that until you stop doing that. :cool: The compacting is done to clear out the spaces left by deleting messages from the database. It's probably a "housekeeping" function invoked periodically. You aren't letting it complete, so it just tries again the next time it gets a chance. :badpc: I have a feeling (because it's taking a l..o..n..g time) that a compacted database will recover quite a bit of disk space, and it might also speed up the operation of OE. Why not let it finish?. It seems to be determined. :thumbs: |

| 366867 | 2005-06-25 07:10:00 | OE is probably set to compact your message folders when they reach X size so the best thing to do is to take OE offline (File>Work Offline) then compact the folders manually (File>Folder>Compact all folders). After that is done ensure that you set OE to online mode again (repeat the File>Work Offline). |
