366864 2005-06-25 03:49:00 Can't answer your question.....but I would recommend Thunderbird (www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/) wmoore (6009)
366865 2005-06-25 03:58:00 I don't know, but it might not stop doing that until you stop doing that.

The compacting is done to clear out the spaces left by deleting messages from the database. It's probably a "housekeeping" function invoked periodically. You aren't letting it complete, so it just tries again the next time it gets a chance. :badpc:

I have a feeling (because it's taking a l..o..n..g time) that a compacted database will recover quite a bit of disk space, and it might also speed up the operation of OE. Why not let it finish?. It seems to be determined.

366866 2005-06-25 04:41:00 In OE, go to "Tools" "options" "maintenance" You will find the settings in there. Not sure why people always recommend alternative programs - nothing wrong with OE.
Bye

366867 2005-06-25 07:10:00 OE is probably set to compact your message folders when they reach X size so the best thing to do is to take OE offline (File>Work Offline) then compact the folders manually (File>Folder>Compact all folders).

After that is done ensure that you set OE to online mode again (repeat the File>Work Offline).
