2005-06-27 07:53:00 | Well our 6 year old monitor has finally given up the ghost and looks like I need to buy a new one. I'm look at a 19" CRT. What I want to know is .. Is there a differance in picture quality in CRT monitors? Like, if I buy a 19" flat Dick Smith Electronic one for about 250 (RRP $298), is there a differance to buying a flat ... say ... Sony one for nearly $600 ??? | ProMaz (34) | |
2005-06-27 08:01:00 | A huge difference The quality and picture clarity between a DSE & Sony (Trinitron?) is huge If you can afford it go for the Sony

2005-06-27 08:40:00 | Well maybe there isn't anything wrong with my monitor. Its a Panasonic PanaSync e70, about 5 years old, I can't really remember. But I have notice the VGA cable at the back is REALLY dodgy and the slightest bump makes the screen go all buzzy and then it turns itself off. I have tried a new VGA cable but now, the picture quality is really bad and all the text is ghosting, like not fully but a grey outline is everywhere, if you get what I mean. It must be a lose connection at the back, would that be expensive to get fixed?? Anf who would do it, would my best bet be (seeing as I work at Dick Smith) getting our service dep. to do it? | ProMaz (34) | |

If I press the + a list of all the prop[orties of my screen are shown and you can alter them by pressing eithe the + or - . you can also shift from one to the other by pressing the +. I f you just press the + till you come to a icon looking like a maganet then press and hold the + you should see your screen shake that is the screen being demagnatised and that might cure your problem. kk Also I have just received July`s PC World and there is a feature on L.C.D Screens. ;) |

2005-06-28 06:57:00 | Try degassing your monotor My understanding is that degaussing is only useful if the monitor has been magnetised by placing a stereo speaker or something else containing a magnet too close to the screen. Most monitors have built in degaussers that do the job when being turned on as a preventative measure. Degaussing is only useful if you notice splotches of colour on the screen, especially in the corners and won't improve a fuzzy monitor

2005-06-28 08:57:00 | Nothing ventured nothing gained the sugestion to degass the monotor was made as other sugestions hadnt worked. As a matter of fact the monitor I used till i upgraded was only 3 yrs old and could be degassed manually and as the manual said if you shift it around much you should degass which I have done and it did improve the picture. :o | peter pan (6885) | |

2005-06-28 09:18:00 | It's true, monitor tubes don't like gas in them, that's why it is advisable to de-gas them regularly. The poor picture quality and ghosting with a new VGA cable can occur if that cable is an unshielded el cheapo one. You can tell if they are the useless ones by their thickness, very much thinner than properly shielded cables. I don't know if that applies in this case, after 6 years the monitor may well be on the way out.
