367157 2005-06-26 07:26:00 Hi,

I have just brought this notebook second hand. All I have been provided is the notebook, mouse, power cable, and two Toshiba Restore Discs.

The owners have not been sure whether this model has wireless LAN. But upon getting it, I have found that there is a switch for wireless lan, therefore, would I be right in assuming that it does?

Following the user manual I've managed to get online, it says I can go into System Device Manager and enable. Trouble is, I don't see anything under the heading 'Network Adapters' and therefore the wireless LAN is not functioning properly.

When I try to install the drivers (even though it should be installed already) it asks for the device to install it for. Problem is there is none!

Could I be wrong in assuming that there is wireless LAN?

Any helps to get running would be much appreciated!

Thanks

367158 2005-06-26 07:46:00 From memory Wireless was an option at purchase time in some cases, it was usually in the form of a mini PCI card fitted under a removeable cover underneath?

Its probably only 2 screws, look inside. No card = no wireless?
(Not the RAM cover).

Look here for what it should be like if fitted

Wireless LAN
Some computers in this series are equipped with a wireless LAN mini-PCI card

367160 2005-06-26 08:22:00 Ok, thanks Godfather. My model number is PSA10A-012NHP

It seems to me that this notebook has a inbuilt wireless antenna (what I can see on the surface) but does not have a mini-PCI wireless card inside. Looks like I'll probably have to go buy a PCMIA card!

I've also got a Toshiba A10, model number PSA10A-OY75MP, which I've had for a year now. I haven't got the mini-PCI wireless card either but I'm pretty sure they told me it was ready to go if I got the card.
On mine it has the Network Icon in my taskbar stating a network cable is unplugged. Under Network Connections, it has 'connect using Intel [R] 802.1x authentication for this network.' Also under Type it has Lan or high speed internet, and Status as 'network cable unplugged'. And drivers are installed in devices for the Intel[R]100VE Network connection and the PCMCIA adapter. You can get the wireless LAN kit which are installed by dealers only, according to my manual.
Haven't tried setting up anything though so will be interested to see how you get on. Would love some feedback :)
Mine is still going really well, increased the Ram to 500MB.
Also, my recovery disk is a set of 3 disks and is WindowsXP1 professional. Able Business machines deal in Toshiba Notebooks here [ChCh] and you can contact them on the following:
