367094 2005-06-26 00:39:00 Don't write me off I am a procrastinator who really would like a new Computer

I know when you buy today you are probably buying yesterdays technology.
BUT I don' want to buy last years if you know what I mean.

I have $2000 to spend - I have all my own software XP Home, mouse keyboard and printer.

Whats the best I could expect to Buy :
I want LCD Screen 17 or 19", DVD Writer (easy one) adsl Modem, Watch TV on it. Would like it to be Fast. Mainly do a bit of Graphics (Photo's) Word, and simple games.

367095 2005-06-26 00:48:00 well I would do some window shopping, (if you are using those componets you listed) you may want to do custom build, again include pc builder in your window shopping.
Another good thing to do is make a list of want the pc going to be used for
and dont forget to think of the future (chidren and their games).

367096 2005-06-26 01:16:00 have a look around at prices first. your budget isn't really enough for top end gear, a 19" lcd will eat almost half your budget.

if your do photos seroiusly then a good screen and a good 2D quailty video card is proberly the most important.

Nonsense. An AOC 19" CRT would cost $569. Thats not half. And leaving $1431 for the rest, is easy to get decent components. After all it doesn't need to include mouse, KB and XP.

Thats great, but he stated he wants a LCD monitor, and they cost a lot more. 19" CRTs aren't very popular because they are so big & heavy that they are just too much of a pain in the ass for most people.
