367064 2005-06-25 16:11:00 Hi,

I've recently just got 2GB of RAM and I'd like to try putting a small swap file onto a RAM disk and have it automatically recreate the swap file and RAM disk on each reboot. I don't want it accessing the hard disk at all.

What are some good programs for this? I'm running Windows XP Pro.

Even if I try disabling the swap file altogether it still uses one from what I can see in task manager under PF usage. Why is this?

Thanks :)

367065 2005-06-26 02:05:00 I bought the RamDisk program from here about 2 years ago:

http://www.ramdisk.tk/

It was only US$2 for the extended version that allows ramdisks greater than 64MB.

I played around with it for a while, but I can't remember now whether there was any noticeable speed up, but at that time I didn't really have enough memory.

You must have a swap or paging file with XP, it's the way the memory management system works. It is not the same as win9x. where you can make the swap file zero if you have enough RAM.
Try a Google for sites explaining XP memory management.
