367043 2005-06-25 11:11:00 I am running Windows XP home Edition and installed the
" SmasheR spyware " program, then reconnected to the internet and when I pressed the box to register it I realised I had disconnected my firewall and antivirus as they had asked to close all Windows programs for their installation. I closed down and tried to restart and all I get each time now is a repeating two tone sound like chimes or an alarm. I tried to bootup from an older startup floppy from my antivirus program but nothing happened
Can anyone help please?

367044 2005-06-25 11:26:00 Can you try and start up in Safe Mode, hitting the f8 key repeadly as it is booting up? That way you may be able to get in and uninstall or use system restore back to before you loaded the program. supergran (108)

AMI Codes
Two Beeps : PARITY ERROR/PARITY CIRIUT FAILURE
Many XT and some AT-class computers beep once or twice when booting up normally. If your computer shows standard information on the screen , you do not have a problem; if anything is wrong the computer will display a screen error message.
If you have no video display, check first that your monitor is turned on and plugged in properly. The double beep may occur to tell you of a parity error in the first 64K of memory.
If you're lucky, a memory chip has simply worked itself loose on the motherboard. Reseat the chips or the SIMM memory strips

If this does'nt work it gives some more instructions

Can post other instructions (which is for a IBM 1-4-2 beep code)

367048 2005-06-28 05:52:00 "a repeating two tone sound like chimes or an alarm" sounds very much like an over-temperature alarm for the CPU. Thats a hardware problem (such as a failed fan or dislodged heatsink) and could be quite incidental to your software issues.

The post above assumed it was just 2 beeps, not the two tone siren sound you appear to describe.
