367398 2005-06-28 09:53:00 Theren is an Elim worship centre just around the corner from my shop, I was tempted to enter and Proclaim "I know your God, he kills many in virtual warfare"

Lmao.

Then the moment passed....

367399 2005-06-28 10:24:00 Rofl. No I don't know how they pronounce Elim church, but I think they say Eeelim? My name has a | in it, quite different ;) and it's pronounced eh-lim as in Eliminator. :2cents: E|im (87)
367400 2005-06-28 19:44:00 The Acbel Power supplies are verygood. They all carry a lifetime warrenty.
The retail boxes for the 400w version says "1st tier".

Overall they are a very good powersupply.

367401 2005-06-28 21:01:00 Zcom (wholesaler) sells them. I wondered about them too. The amps seem ok, and they say lifetime warranty. However whats the lifetime??
I have not tried one as I've always avoided Zcoms dodgy PSUs. They used to sell Hyena once....

Another thing to check - how heavy is it? All the cheap junk I've seen weigh nothing. My enermax on the other hand is quite heavy. Not the most technical of tests, but thats after checking specs, reviews etc.
Or get one and take it to an electrical place and get them to take it apart and check the quality of the components inside.

If you wish to be the guinea pig, let us know if it blows up later. :waughh:

367402 2005-06-28 21:40:00 AcBel are well respected power supply manufacturers who have been around a long time, though not well represented in NZ. I am a little surprised that nobody seems to have heard of them though.

Here (www.tweaktown.com) is a review by a NZ based site that might tell you a little more. Their testing was a little unscientific but adequate for the purpose. Don't get hung up on ±5% voltage variations on load, that is insignificant. It is major troughs and peaks on transient loads that will cause the problems, not a few hundred millivolts variation between no load and full load.

If the price is right, buy it.

Cheers

Tweaktown is Aussie not NZ.
And they have to be kidding - "lets run it in an overclocked system, oh look, nothing tragic happened, so it must be good."

I'll wait until some proper reviews are around.

367405 2005-06-29 04:46:00 I reccomend Acbel pwrsupplies, because of their reputation overseas (starngely they arnt very well known in Nz, but then is any power supply manufacturer?) and the reliability. I am running 2 AcBel 400w Retail power supplies in two different computers, and they perform very well.

The lifetime warrenty for the powersupplies, I am not quiet sure, but i would presume that the life of the product is atleast 5 years, if not more.

367406 2005-06-29 05:25:00 I second that. I also run 2 AcBel 400W and 500W power supply, no problem at all with supply or reliability.
On the 5 hundy got 5 x HDD in Raid (3 x SATA)(2 x IDE), 1 x DVDRW, 1 x CDRW/DVD, Athlon 64 3200+, Radeon 9800Pro + fans etc.
No problems at all, runs 24/7.

How long have you owned them? If they've been going 3 years I'll agree with you.
