1387763 2014-11-05 22:39:00 I have just installed 8.1 again on my Asus M5A78L-M USB3 motherboard. My monitor is Samsung B2430HD SyncMaster. At first, all seemed ok but a day or two later My problem occurred, all images extend in landscape form to show faces like balloons and bodies are squashed down so they look grotesque people.

At first I thought it was the graphics card. I replaced it with an Asus GT730 - no difference. I applied the drivers for the monitor - no difference. I tried to change the screen resolution - no difference (also tried another PC on the monitor - all OK).

I am at a loss. Do I reinstall 8.1 and hope?

1387764 2014-11-05 23:24:00 Two questions, At the beginning you mentioned "I have just installed 8.1 again " What was the reason to reinstall ?

Secondly, what's changed over the last two days, Eg: updates, programs put in / uninstalled etc ?

1387765 2014-11-05 23:49:00 I had a failure on a 1TB HDD. I was unable to restore my backup so I have used another HDD to install 8.1. I have only copied data files to the new HDD and applied only the MS updates from online. Bryan (147)
1387766 2014-11-06 00:26:00 Oaky, Only reason asking why the reinstall was in case it was from a similar occurrence :)

Assume you have installed all the drivers either from the ASUS site, or the DVD that came with the Board ?

1387767 2014-11-06 00:35:00 I have installed the DVD drivers and that has made no difference to the problem. It existed before the new GPU and still exists - like Monty Pythons dead parrot. I see that there are a number of similar problems highlighted on Google but I haven't worked through them yet. Bryan (147)
1387768 2014-11-06 01:02:00 Just went back and re-read the post ( only skim read before)

1387769 2014-11-06 01:28:00 Desktop icons are effected. Internet pictures also. Using MS Media Player and also have Centre.

Just checked CCleaner and it shows that the PC is still using MS basic graphics even though I dran the driver DVD for the new GPU and rebooted.

1387770 2014-11-06 01:43:00 Just reinstalled the gpu drivers. CCleaner still show MS basic graphics. Is the m/b the problem? Bryan (147)
1387771 2014-11-06 02:53:00 what does it when the PC starts, ie all the txt at POST

Download new vid drivers from ATI/NVidia & try them .

But try this 1st, res should be 1920 x 1080 for that monitor

1387772 2014-11-06 03:17:00 Device manager does not recognise the new PCIe GPU. I think that there is a problem with the connection between the GPU and the motherboard. It is not just the new GPU but the old one as well. Bryan (147)
