1387582 2014-11-03 23:20:00 "Gordon Kelly, writing in Forbes, said the policy revealed "Microsoft's determination to distance itself from the original form of Windows 8" despite it being released just over two years ago."
www.bbc.co.uk

"From 31 October, consumers could no longer buy copies of the Home Basic, Home Premium and Ultimate versions of Windows 7. ... The next version of Windows, called Windows 10, is due to be released in late 2015."

1387583 2014-11-04 00:07:00 Pretty misleading topic.

Win7 is still officially available, both on PC/laptops & as OEM install DVD (win7 Pro)
Win8 will still be available via retail for some time yet
So they havnt 'ended' win7 sales at all. Or Win8

:-)

"The next version of Windows, called Windows 10, is due to be released in late 2015."
Obviously Win8 will be available untill then

"Microsoft's determination to distance itself from the original form of Windows 8" despite it being released just over two years ago"
Just another guess/rumor with no actual proof whatsoever.
Win8 will be 3 years old(?) when Win10 is released for sale. 3 years old, so no big conspiracy there at all. Of course they will stop sales of 8 when 10 is released

If MS really thought Win8 was so bad, in sales or use, they wouldnt have made 10 so similar to 8.
My guess: by the time 10 is selling, most will be so used to Win8 that Win10 will be a non event.
Its not a complete re-write of the OS/gui or anything like it. Its just a tweek.(my guess)

While the topic is not fully correct its actually right as well.

Have a look at the end of sale date for windows 7, 31st October 2014 -- That's a few days ago.

windows.microsoft.com Scroll down to end of sale.

When Microsoft launches a new version of Windows, we will continue to allow OEMs to sell PCs preinstalled with the previous version for up to two years after the launch date of the new version unless otherwise announced

RETAIL sales of W7 ended last year 31st October 2013, RETAIL versions of W8 have just ended, OEM hasn't yet.

End of sales refers to the date when a particular version of Windows is no longer shipped to retailers or Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). This also coincides with copies being sent to Suppliers that sell OEM Software.

Doesn't mean they cant sell what they have, just MS wont be shipping any more copies.

Just spoke to one of my suppliers, and when asked he said" once our current stock of Windows 7 Home or Ultimate runs out there will be no more, Microsoft have stopped shipping it to us". He said at the current rate of sales they have about two months supply - once its all gone its all gone.

Windows 8 was available October 26, 2012 end of sales October 31, 2014 so it was there for two years -- Time flies :)

IF MS follow suit to when they were available - then October 2015 ???

Date of general availability

Windows 7 -- October 22, 2009
Windows 8 -- October 26, 2012
Windows 8.1 -- October 18, 2013
Windows 10 --- ??????
