1387031 2014-10-29 01:37:00 Thinking of building this nz.pcpartpicker.com but the compatibility notes at the bottom say "Fractal Design Core 1000 USB 3.0 MicroATX Mid Tower Case has front panel USB 3.0 ports, but the Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 Micro ATX AM3+ Motherboard does not have onboard USB 3.0 headers." Does this mean there won't be any USB ports at all anywhere on the computer? Will there be any on the back if not the front? Or is there a way to make the front ones work?

Thanks!

1387032 2014-10-29 01:49:00 Theres 2 USB 3 at the back. (www.asus.com)

You could get the case, but you would need an extension / adapter like this (www.ebay.com.au) to plug into the back ports, if you wanted to use the front ports on that case

1387033 2014-10-29 01:59:00 The motherboard should have at least two USB headers on it somewhere for front ports. But the USB3 ports on your case have a different plug.

You could use this: www.ebay.com.au to be able to use the front ports with the onboard connector, and also use the back ports separately.

But of course, you will not get USB3 speed out of (the front ports), just USB2.

You could also get a USB3 PCI card if you really want USB3 for all ports.

1387034 2014-10-29 01:59:00 Ok thanks! Is there a better case you could recommend that would utilise all the ports? Filthygamer (16897)
1387035 2014-10-29 02:03:00 The link I gave will give you USB 3 speed since they'll be plugged into the back USB 3 ports Speedy Gonzales (78)

Ok thanks. I think I'll live with USB 2.0 for now if it's easiest.

1387037 2014-10-29 02:04:00 That motherboard has 2x USB3 and 4x USB2 ports on the back, as well as 6x USB2 headers for front ports.

You could get a case with 6x USB front ports and use all the connectors on the motherboard, but they would only be USB2.

If you want USB3 front ports, either do what Speedy suggests, but you will use up both rear USB3 ports, if you want more, get a USB3 PCI card.

Oh ok. This'll be my first build, don't know much about hardware and such but that sounds ideal. Cheers for the help!

Ok I'll keep that in mind. Any recommendations for a case that fits that sort of criteria for the same price?

1387040 2014-10-29 02:12:00 Personally, I'd go with a USB3 card for the front ports, then you'd get more ports anyway. And not have to route an adapter from the back ports, back in through the case, and then plug it in (and you'd have to make sure the cables are long enough, too)

Something like this: pricespy.co.nz Provides two more USB3 ports on the back, plus a header to connect your front USB3 ports to.

As for a case with 6x front USB of any kind, I have no idea. Sorry.
