1386832 2014-10-25 21:39:00 Chill would probably be the best one to reply to this;

I'm currently running version 1.5.11 on my TP-Link WR941ND ver 3 router.
I see that version 1.6.2 is available.
I've backed up my settings and downloaded "gargoyle_1.6.2-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr941nd-v3-squashfs-factory.bin"

So, I'm all set to go (I think). But just being super cautious, I thought I should get some reassurance I'm doing the right thing first.

If you're there Chill, could you please tell me if this looks OK?

1386833 2014-10-25 22:16:00 Before upgrading your gargoyle, make sure you've got the council's approval. You might also want to check the flying buttresses for spiders while you're up there. ;)

Seriously though, it looks to me like the fimware filename matches your hardware, so I can't see a problem either.

1386834 2014-10-25 23:36:00 Take note of all your settings. I don't believe a backup/restore will work from 1.5 to 1.6.

I'm wanting to upgrade myself, but from 1.4. But am thinking about getting a spare wr1043nd just in case.

1386835 2014-10-26 06:54:00 Thanks psycik,
Good "heads up", for me. I just wonder if I should take the risk of upgrading, at all. Is there really that much to be gained?
The machine works quite well for me, as it is IMO.

Agent 24, thanks for your "tongue in cheek" response. I don't think I'll test the Council with applying for a consent. OMG aint I a rebel LOL

1386836 2014-10-26 07:43:00 Yeah not sure between 1.5 and 1.6.

I know for me there are enhancements to qos. I use the bandwidth monitoring and quotas. And have written something to pull the bandwidth file off at regular intervals.

1386837 2014-10-27 23:53:00 They changed the file format a wee while back and broke upgrades so you'll have to factory wipe. That file is fine.

What's new that you want? I'm sure there's nothing new with QoS?

I'm not sure?:confused: I asked that question of myself - nothing that I can see.
Trouble is, sometimes with these kind of things, if one lets the upgrade opportunities get too far away, then it's the "devil's own job":devil to catch up when there's something needed.

1386839 2014-10-29 02:59:00 Basically I was running 1.5.6 until just a month or two ago when I loaned my TL-WR1043ND (And DrayTek DV130) to a Cyber Cafe to see if it'd fix some of their disconnection issues. They're now running that. There's not a lot changed between then and now, so if it's working currently, unless you want the plugin architecture to start doing funky stuff from your router (I personally wouldn't) then just stick with what works and is reliable :)

If you're itching for something new, go new hardware (Like dual-band!) over just upgrading the software version ;)

EDIT: Just don't get the WDR4300, in the current version of OpenWRT that Gargoyle uses, there's a bug in the WiFi that causes it to drop it's nuts all the time... Wait until they upgrade Gargoyle to the newest OpenWRT and then go for that model.

Thanks Chill,
It does work and it's reliable:thumbs: and because of that I'm really loathe to change (at this stage anyway).
So, for now, I might just channel my itch for something new, in another direction - maybe rebuild my Proxmox server, using this case, that I bought on special a few weeks ago:cool:;
