| 1374243 | 2014-05-06 13:48:00 | To the best of my knowledge Beetle, the laboratory screening costs - which is by far the biggest expense - has never been charged to a patient. Seeing a doctor to get a smear usually means an appointment fee but that's reasonable - the doctor has to eat. Some health boards pay the fee so the consult is free in some areas. There are tv adverts encouraging women to get smears so it would be surprising if this was dropped. On the other hand there is research which suggests smear tests are ineffective in actually detecting ovarian cancer. |

Sadly, assuming there is a limit to the stupidity of some politicians is not supported by history or current events. |
