1373645 2014-04-28 07:23:00 From that article:
an attacker would have to convince users to visit the [compromised or malicious] website, typically by getting them to click a link in an email message or instant messenger message that takes users to the attacker's website."

People still click links in emails even after being warned not to -- CryptoLocker is a good example.

They'll do that with any Windows not just XP.

1373647 2014-04-28 10:51:00 They'll do that with any Windows not just XP. There's no denying that. Just if people are going to use an unsupported OS, and theres some known vulnerability, they need to more vigilant and careful in what they do.

Mind you that's what these "attackers" are counting on; stupid people, and there's no shortage world wide ;)

I use mailwasher, and at a guess theres been over 20 emails that "could" have been the CryptoLocker, all the signs were there, but they never even got downloaded from the mail server at Vodafone/Telstra.

1373648 2014-04-28 19:04:00 There seems to be an illusion floating about that Microsoft's support is worth squat. It ain't, unless you are a tech making a living out of fixing the "interesting" results of this support.
It is quite true that not every "fix" they belatedly promulgate is a disaster for every user. It is far less likely that every "fix" is the harbinger of computing bliss to every user, the odds of a M$ update being valuable may closely parallel the success ratio in Lotto. On the plus side, updates are free to try, on the other hand misfiring Lotto tickets do not cause harm. Some few Lotto tickets do exactly what they were purchased for, with Microsoft's OS's not quite as often, but people still buy Lotto and Windows.

1373649 2014-04-29 00:31:00 however attacks are only currently targeting browser versions 9 and above.

Correct me if I'm wrong but XP stopped at IE8 yeah? so this "1st attack" doesn't even effect windows XP as yet even if it might in future and is actually targetted at newer versions of windows.

Still I abandoned XP some time ago and would not go back, it's truly ancient by OS standards.

1373650 2014-04-29 07:03:00 As per the article:
affects Internet Explorer 6 to the latest version 11 on Windows XP, Vista and 7.

Which puts it in the XP IE Range, XP stopped at IE8, maybe they haven't gotten to XP "yet" ;)

1373651 2014-04-29 16:23:00 The fix will be the release of IE11 for windows XP :D apsattv (7406)
1373652 2014-04-29 18:28:00 So WT, have you had a lot of clients yet locked down by Cryptolocker and similar? Just interested?
