1373345 2014-04-23 10:32:00 Definitely plenty of death involved, Nowadays of course any deluded teenager can buy himself a car that goes faster then his ability to control it, and kill themselves and others.

Not like the old days when you had to invest heavily in a car if you wanted one that went faster then a farm horse, and take it to a race track to seek out a horrible death.

1373347 2014-04-23 11:52:00 Spectators were much better at running with their hats on in the good olde days. R2x1 (4628)
1373348 2014-04-23 20:25:00 I recon there must have been more spectators killed than drivers, as some of the barriers were just a piece of tape.

I actually took part in the old Matamata round the houses street race many years ago. It was organised under the auspice of the Association of New Zealand Car Clubs and other than a few hay bales you took your chances where you viewed the race from. It was often a case of feet do your stuff, your body is in trouble. ;)

Ahhhh, character building stuff. :D

1373349 2014-04-23 22:04:00 We used to go over to Matamata for the races from Rotorua, and down to Levin. Some great racing in those days, with top competitors from both Europe and NZ full on. Good stuff. I still think the Maserati 250F was the best racing car ever. Richard (739)
