1373929 2014-05-09 02:46:00 Very well. Show me how to run Draft Choice for Windows in Win 8. Then please demonstrate stable, accurate and reliable operation of Mach 3 on a computer with low power requirements running Win 8. Assist me please with using Photoshop Elements 1.0.128, I have not tried it with W8, but it will not install in W7 due to system constraints. My Weather Station is a bit old and set in it's ways, while it was happy under DOS it is a bit lost under XP even if it works after more fiddling than was justified. For W7, don't even ask. I realise that Windows 8 is "As Seen On TV", and perfectly harmonised with Symantec, McAfee and Incredimail, but I don't actually use those. I really cannot see the point in buying a so-called operating system that demands I replace both my hardware and software, increase my power bill, and fail to operate the machines that are the sole reason for having 2 of the computers. For such things as spreadsheets, image editing, word processing etc, I mainly use Linux. SWMBO is an Apple fan, so there could be a bit of a hardware clash there, plus physical harm to me should I be rash enough to suggest it. ;) If you could suggest a single valid reason I should throw money to the monkeys that market W8, I would be fascinated and astounded.
As to why Exactly W8 is so bad, there you have got me. Possibly it is a bad concept, poorly executed, unfit for purpose IN MY CIRCUMSTANCES, or it could be incompetence in the development, but most likely it is just being a solution that I have not got a matching problem for.

Would you replace your current vehicle with a Kenworth because it has 14 gears, 3 axles, 4 air horns, a 700L fuel tank, chromed twin air cleaners, and can blow black smoke 6 metres in the air if you fiddle with it a bit? It may require you to get a new Driveway, update your garage, and switch to a supermarket that has compatible parking, but it offers the latest features appropriate to a truck of that size. Once you get your new license, adjust to the necessary higher fuel bills and truly explore it's possibilities, you will realise that it can carry your tool kit and yourself plus those spares you normally carry just as well as your present vehicle, plus let you drive through surface (or other) flooding up to 700 mm deep. That would surely make it all worth while, even before you recline in your air suspension chair and admire the 12 fluffy dice you can now display in your windscreen. And you won't be in a rut with a Kenworth, you'll be making 'em.
Not relevant? Nor is W8 for me, the shoe simply does not fit. You are happy with W8, I am just as happy without it. I guess an OS that can make me happy even when I haven't got it has something going for it after all. Have a good day ;)

Rather than moaning about new stuff I embrace it ;)
Very wise, after your fond embraces of Vista it is entirely understandable that you would dump each and every M$ bit of fluff that gets up your nose as soon as possible. ;)

1373932 2014-05-09 04:17:00 To answer the post R2, the reasons given are not really relating to W8 directly - I'm referring to the actual day to day working of the OS, not outdated programs . As you mentioned "but it will not install in W7 " So going by that its NOT the actual OS thats the problem its the programs mentioned are designed for an older OS and again have not updated to keep up with OS Developments, or if they have the people may not have upgraded the programs they brought many years ago .

One common program that I see a lot of is people trying to use Family Tree ( or other genealogy programs) and have not brought the latest . Newer Photoshop Programs for example will run fine .

Many old programs wont work on Windows 7 or W8, so a person cant blame the OS for that . What I would try if you wanted to use W8 ( the trial) and experiment is install XP on a VM and run that within W8 . Some may work some may not . I dont have the programs mentioned to try and any that could be downloaded possibly will be newer versions to what you have so a test wouldn't be accurate .

reliable operation of Mach 3 on a computer with low power requirements running Win 8 How low is Low? If the computer is struggling to run a basic operating system to start with then of course other programs may give problems .

I realise that Windows 8 is "As Seen On TV", and perfectly harmonised with Symantec, McAfee and Incredimail, :yuck: Wouldn't use any of those programs either

Post a link to a free version /download of the exact same version of Draft Choice and Photoshop Elements 1 . 0 . 128 that you say wont run and I'll see if I can get it to work . :nerd:

The whole post points to one thing -- Some programs used will only work on an old OS because they have either not been upgraded,as long as they are still available . by the sounds never used W8 . 1 . 1 only going by the follow the sheep crowd :D

You mentioned your SWMBO likes MAC's -- Personally I dont, and theres only ONE reason -- the expensive overpriced hardware and AFAIK its only legal to install a MAC OS on Apple hardware .

Look forward to the links please - always up for a challenge :)

1373933 2014-05-09 04:26:00 Why do all ms os's need a shed load of updates to make them usable. I'm not talking security updates but general ones. I use win 8.1.1 daily at work. Would l buy it for home no the kiddie screen is still annoying it should be removed from desktops gary67 (56)

The only time I do is to access programs I use sometimes that I pinned there, other programs used all the time I put shortcuts on the desktop like every other OS or on ObjectDock - looks like a MAC EH! :).

About the only other times I use the start tiles is to access the Store, or sometimes use the off button ( top right corner)

My sentiments entirely.

1373936 2014-05-09 04:50:00 What are you guys going to do when your Motherboard craps out running XP, & new hardware wont support it ? wainuitech (129)
1373937 2014-05-09 04:52:00 Heres a legit question ( not trying to be smart).

Since W8 is so bad please Name Exactly why its so Bad, what tasks you cant do any more in the new OS that you can do in the older ones , and be precise, NOT " its not good, I dont like it" etc.

I would ask the opposite question: What is the big advantage of Windows 8 over Windows 7? What groundbreaking new features have they added to Windows 8 that make every man and his dog need Windows 8? From what I see, there is nothing especially great about Windows 8, except perhaps a longer support cycle since it's newer.

Complain loudly

I don't know about you but Metro is one reason I upgraded ;)
