1373919 2014-05-08 22:35:00 Adding to that -- Its not only the system Support.

Theres more and more occurrences of new programs and websites not working in XP. As things develop around the world an OS that's to old will run into more problems.

MANY of the hardware manufactures no longer have XP drivers for new components, so if you wanted to replace a motherboard for example you're Tough out of Luck.

Had this just this week, a person phoned and said he had brought some new fancy camera, wont work with XP, the drivers & Software on the site only support W7 and above, yet worked perfectly fine on W8.1

I'm not all that fussed about lacking support for stuff I haven't got. The stuff I have got and use regularly concerns me more. ;)
Obviously, getting a port of the software that works on Linux would be the "Compleat Solution", but it might put a lot of techs, lawyers and advertising agencies out of work. :devil

1373920 2014-05-08 22:43:00 W8 obviously needs something by way of help; euthanasia is probably the best course here. ;) Another one who claims it rubbish and wouldn't be at all surprised never actually used it fully with all the latest updates.

Earlier this week, I upgraded one persons XP to W8.1.1, after taking it back, I got a phone call the next day -- They want me to go back next week, collect the 4 other XP computers they have and upgrade them as well. To quote the person "XP feels like a Dinosaur now -- whats all the fuss about W8 being hard".

1373921 2014-05-08 23:06:00 I think the tide is turning a little on win 8, I don't think it'll ever go down in history as one of MS great OS versions but people are starting to realise it's more than just a start screen and is actually very good once you get past that particular feature. For those that refuse to accept "Metro" there's always classic shell or start8 which give it back the windows 7 type menu.

MS made some mistakes with usability for non-touch users in the initial release which has been pretty well addressed with the updates and some people seem to hate the start screen with a passion but that's just aesthetic. It's stable and fast and does everything windows 7 can do just as well, plus it has new stuff for those that are interested. Which GUI you prefer to navigate around is just a preference and doesn't make either version "rubbish".

People have short memories too, with practically every windows release MS have renamed and moved common functions (one of their less endearing habits) and there's been a lot of negative responses. Even the much loved XP had a lot of issues and public dislike on release. The problem this time round is the changes were bigger and more obvious and there was a total lack of visual clues to tell you how to deal with them.

I'm fairly certain the start screen and app store are here to stay, MS may tone them down and make them less obtrusive in the next release maybe but I predict they'll still be there.

I've mentioned here before, I started out hating windows 8 but over the course of about a month using it made a complete u-turn and now totally prefer it to any other windows version. I am annoyed that it took me several google searches and a bit of customisation before it really stopped being a nuisance to use, but having learnt my way around now that's all in the past.

1373922 2014-05-08 23:24:00 Don't worry, M$ will break or hide the bits you like in W9. It's just what they do. ;) R2x1 (4628)
1373923 2014-05-09 00:06:00 I hated Windows 8... Windows 8.1 not too bad.. 8.1 update 1, yeah now I'm happy :) Chilling_Silence (9)
1373924 2014-05-09 01:35:00 Don't worry, M$ will break or hide the bits you like in W9. It's just what they do. ;) They may move things about, but at least I and many others wont be stuck in a rut, W8 in its current form, once a person takes the blinders off and gets out of their head its awkward, actually is a lot faster, you can do more, has more features and you find over a short time you can do things easier. The start tiles for example, I hardly ever use them, only when I've pinned a program to that window.

Heres a legit question ( not trying to be smart).

Since W8 is so bad please Name Exactly why its so Bad, what tasks you cant do any more in the new OS that you can do in the older ones , and be precise, NOT " its not good, I dont like it" etc.

Any task you explain that cant be done in W8.1.1 that can be done in XP, either myself or someone else can explain /compare how. Put ya money where ya mouth is as the saying goes ;)

1373925 2014-05-09 01:50:00 Another one who claims it rubbish and wouldn't be at all surprised never actually used it fully with all the latest updates..Probqbly true wainui. But you and pcuaer spout the same line about every version of 8, untill its updated. plod (107)
1373926 2014-05-09 01:56:00 Tiles ?? What are they? Can't see any :) Terry Porritt (14)
1373927 2014-05-09 02:05:00 Probqbly true wainui. But you and pcuaer spout the same line about every version of 8, untill its updated.Very Simple reason -- Willing to learn new things and not get stuck with old ways, old technology, so far theres nothing that took more than a little thought to figure out. The basic's were almost to the point of Borrrrrring :sleep, considering outwardly W8 IS basically W7 with a few changes there isn't to much to learn. Too many people follow like sheep when someone says something is bad, with out even trying it in the first place.

How can a person honestly say something is awful when they have never tried it ? You only have to look at members of this forum, many didn't like W8, but now after using it have done a 180 degree turn. As I pointed out before - Whats going to happen when their PC craps out with XP, they buy new hardware and XP is to old to run on it ? Apart from going to another OS like some form of Linux, which will also be a learning curve they would be in a real bind. :illogical

Rather than moaning about new stuff I embrace it ;)
