And you know what they say about people who Assume things --------- make an ‘ass’ of ‘u’ and ‘me ;) When Microsoft announced its actual name at a later date ( 30th September), Windows 10 there was a few "Gotya's" and surprises. |

2014-11-04 20:40:00 | Look at the date of the article ---15th September at that stage MANY people assumed the next OS was going to be Windows 9. and many tech 'journalists' were claiming it was going to free. Im not sure why MS separate Win8 & Win8.1 in the end of life dates . They are really both Win8 They dont separate Vista & Vista SP1 : SP1 made Vista actually usable, sort of similar to 8.1's fixes & minor tweeks MS even state 8.1 was just a service pack/update in that webpage ...... so I stand by my statement that Win8 is still available via retail :p :-)

2014-11-04 23:35:00 | so I stand by my statement that Win8 is still available via retail :p :-) MS say different, on that site it clearly states End of Sale for Windows 8 October 31, 2014. So doesn't really matter if anyone says its a service pack to 8.1, if MS say W8 is no longer available then it wont be, only 8.1. An example of needing 8 is on a laptop -- What say a HDD has to be changed and windows 8 /8.1 re-installed ? If the Original Laptop came with Windows 8 then you cant install 8.1 instead, you have to install 8 first then upgrade to 8.1. The reason is the COA/Product Key is embedded in the motherboard, there's no COA sticker. If you tried to install 8.1 it prompts you for a Key, if you install W8 it locates the key automatically then carries on, once done you then run updates and upgrade to 8.1. The Cost - if any -- to change from 8.1 to 10 ------ best wait and see :)

2014-11-05 04:59:00 | I need to rebuild SWMBO's pc early next year its still running XP, but I'm reluctant to put Win 8.1 on if they are going to make me pay for Win10 as well | gary67 (56) | |
2014-11-05 06:15:00 | Have read on a few different sites that if you have to buy W10 because you dont have 8 or 8.1 there will be options. Which are: The basic edition will be very cheap, if you then want other features you need to pay for them. Others say that if you have W8 or 8.1 W10 will be a free upgrade. What they "May" do is like when W8 came out, have an option to buy cheap for a short time. Of course its all rumor and MS aren't talking or confirming yet .

2014-11-05 19:30:00 | Wonder if there will be an upgrade path for Win 10 if you have Win 7 installed or will it be a new install?? | paulw (1826) | |
2014-11-05 20:18:00 | Wonder if there will be an upgrade path for Win 10 if you have Win 7 installed or will it be a new install?? “If you have Windows 7 or Windows 8 you’ll be able to do an in-place upgrade. For example, you can go from Windows 7 to 10 directly and preserve your apps, data, configurations and settings, Quoted from www.itpro.co.uk pricing if Free or not is another matter. personally I can see if a person has W8 /8.1 MS making it free ( or a very low cost) but as for earlier versions -- Who knows, MS are staying tight lipped.
