1387001 2014-10-29 03:26:00 Was it a net framework 4 update?? (support.microsoft.com)

If it is its corrupt. Depends if you've checked / installed any updates previously, on how many updates will appear now

wainuitech is helping me with I had a page of updates, now have none. How do I get them back. Previously I had been receiving them automatically.

1387003 2014-10-29 03:34:00 Follow that link Speedy Gonzales (78)
1387004 2014-10-29 04:14:00 After following the link that Speedy posted, re check manually for updates. Sometimes updates get selected that aren't required.

In real simple terms the software downloads to the SoftwareDistrubition Folder and installs. As long as the original folder and its contents are there previously installed updates can be removed if required, ( normally not a problem as most dont get uninstalled unless theres a "Bug" in the update). When rechecking manually it checks the system as to whats installed already, then offers any new ones. You'll find some may have already installed even though they were previously listed, now not OR not required.

1387005 2014-10-29 04:52:00 Does that mean when I deleted SoftwareDistribution my previously many listed updates do not show up.? I think I understand your explanation. Cheers. Pato (2463)

1387008 2014-11-17 01:49:00 I have this problem back again. On 12/11/14 I got 13 updates, automatically installed, and every day since, I get 'update 1 of 1' each time I close down.

wainuitechs solution previously fixed the problem but it is not working on this occasion. Can anyone suggest what else I can try please.?

1387009 2014-11-17 04:49:00 Try this, My son had the exact same problem on his W8.1 lappie last friday.

Open a command prompt CMD as Admin, type chkdsk /r <Press Enter> You will get a message saying it needs to reboot, press Y then reboot, it should run the next time it starts.

It will take a while to run, but DONT stop it. His appeared to "hang" on 13-14% for roughly an hour -- he asked if he could crash it -- NO -- LEAVE IT ALONE, crashing it can cause all sorts of problems. When it finished roughly 2 hours later, windows updates went in fine this time. :) Happy son again.
