1386857 2014-10-27 05:22:00 The slowness fri, a new install can be caused be spotlight indexing. This goes away after a while

I can but hope! Having said that, it does seem to be a bit faster since the reinstall. Not as fast as before, but not so frustratingly slow it annoys me. Still don't like the colours (and didn't like the other option offered) or the slightly blurry text (and yes, smooth edges is turned on). I suppose I'll get used to it, but it annoys me that I have to!

1386860 2014-10-27 05:57:00 Thanks wainuitech - I remember you as being very helpful in the past whenever I've struck trouble! Only pointing to some possible fixes. MAC's are out of my knowledge base really. I know enough to get into trouble with them :D, but not get out of it.

Guys Like Plod are far more experienced and helpful

He deserves more than a beer or two from us. Him and Speedy are in a class of their own! Greg (193)
1386862 2014-10-27 09:12:00 As for installing an SSD drive (which I had to Google to discover what it was - I'm a computer user, not a technical wizard!), I'm with waunuitech - why should I have to buy something to fix a problem caused by an Apple upgrade?

That's really up to you. It will improve your user experience no matter what version of OS X you end up using. Does your Mac have a DVD drive? Easier way to go back to an older version would be to burn a copy of Mountain Lion (Preferably Mavericks) to a dual layer DVD and install that way.

I will probably go back to Mavericks if re installing Yoesemite doesn't fix things up. Everything about my iMac has been slow since I downloaded and installed Yosemite. It was absolutely fine after I installed Mavericks.

1386864 2014-10-27 20:32:00 Sounds like if I want to go back to an earlier operating system (I don't think I ever upgraded to Mavericks, pretty sure I was still using Mountain Lion) I will need specialist help (and I don't mean from the Apple Support centre...) so I'm stuck as I can't afford to do that right now.

I emailed Apple about the app updating problem again and got this response this morning: "I am sorry that you are still experiencing an issue with updating these applications. Apple is currently working toward a resolution for the issue you have reported. You will receive an email after the matter has been investigated and further information is available."

1386865 2014-10-27 20:36:00 My Mac does have a DVD drive - but how can I burn a copy of Mountain Lion myself? I'm not sure what a dual layer DVD is either (sorry, not a techno person, more a computer user). The woman I spoke to said I could not revert to Mountain Lion because once a later (Yosemite) operating system is installed on my computer, it won't allow me to go back - unless I could do a restore from Time Machine, which (unless it could be recovered from my fried hard drive, which I still have) is not an option. I assumed I could just pay for the download from the App Store and install it but she said that won't work now I have Yosemite installed. Beemer (6956)

Beemer, do you know how to compress a folder into a zip file?
