1387670 2014-11-05 01:52:00 Just got windows 8.1 after using windows 7 for a few years, but we are really having problems trying to sort it out
and making it work OK. Its a very confusing operating system, in our opinion.

Anyway, is it possible to make windows 8.1 behave and act something like windows 7 ?

1387671 2014-11-05 02:43:00 Google Classic Shell and install it. Gives you back the start menu and is free. There are others that have a small cost but I quite like this one.
That fixes the biggest differences in one go. Really though if you spend some time persevering with widows 8 it stops annoying you so much after a week or two and you get used to it.

I was initially not happy with it but now I like it. I'm in the minority though the start screen & charms menu etc are fairly universally disliked. There are several threads here about how to do various things in 8 and I'm sure someone can help you out if you have a specific problem.

1387674 2014-11-05 03:48:00 What exactly are you having problems with.

99% of all people when shown what to do have no problems.

I've lost count of the number of people who say they have problems but cant actually tell you what the problem is they are having or are confused about. Hell I've had people who have upgraded from XP to 8.1 and within 10 minutes wouldn't go back, and these are retired elderly people in their 70-80's.

Personally W7 feels so backward in doing something's now ;)

Please tell us what's the problem and help can be given.

FUNNY thing is many people complain about the start menu/ button being different, yet never use it anyway apart from shutting down :D

Example turning off, several ways, press the windows key, top right click the power button - shutdown/restart OR right click the start Button - Shutdown-- (wasn't that hard ) What's the difference ? - right click instead of left ;)

Hey thanks to you both. Installation was dead easy and it gonna make our lives a lot easier too :-)

1387676 2014-11-05 04:56:00 I have to use Win8.1 at work and one thing I have found if you want to look in the recycle bin before emptying in Win 8 its a 3 step process in Win 7 its a 2 step process and that's just one of the annoying things Win 8.1 does that is retarded gary67 (56)
1387677 2014-11-05 05:08:00 I have to use Win8.1 at work and one thing I have found if you want to look in the recycle bin before emptying in Win 8 its a 3 step process in Win 7 its a 2 step process and that's just one of the annoying things Win 8.1 does that is retarded Learn how to use it :p Mines EXACTLY the same as w7, SINGLE STEP - simply double click it and it opens to view its contents.

1st step put it on the desktop (it should be there by default----has been on every install I've done - and that's too many to remember), but if its not --- Right click the desktop / Personalize, Top left Change desktop Icons - Select what you want. BTW-- this is exactly the same for W7 - so nothing has changed.

If you wanted to expand even further you can right click it, pin to start - again double left click and it opens.

Wheres the Problem ?

1387678 2014-11-05 05:41:00 Correction
Double click to open (Win 7) click empty recycle bin. 2 steps
Double click to open (Win 8) click manage, click empty recycle bin. 3 steps

Now tell me its the same. :devil

1387679 2014-11-05 06:10:00 How about No clicks then on the recycle bin :p

If its in the recycle bin I let Ccleaner take care of it - What is exactly the same is if you put anything in the bin and don't want to delete it you have to select the item, either restore or deselect it. You can still do it in 2 clicks, right click recycle bin left click empty. Even clicking manage, its only less than 1 second, big deal.

Then of course theres the other option "Don't move files to the Recycle Bin. Remove files immediately when deleted"

But then some people don't know there's a right click option on their mouse either.

Its nit picking the complaints about changes -- get used to it, MS aren't going back completely to W7.
