| 1374407 | 2014-05-07 23:28:00 | The article is one big Symantec add and not worth the time I spent reading it. By "anti-virus is dead" I get the impression they mean "we've added some features and changed the name to make it sound more impressive" Symantec have a huge image problem due to the poor implementation of their previous products and I'm not sure they are likely to win back any private customers any time soon but they do seem to do alright in the corporate market which is what this appears to be aimed at. When you read reviews of Norton anti-virus software over the last few years it generally does pretty well with detection and removal it's everything else it does that makes people not like it. (it is very resource intensive and can interfere with normal OS operation and hooks itself into the OS sometimes being almost impossible to remove depending on the version). I read an interesting comment on an anti-virus review site once. The reviewer speculated as to what anti-virus measures the companies who write the software use themselves as they work with viruses on a daily basis and never get infected, there are techniques that are much more effective than signature checks. |

| 1374408 | 2014-05-07 23:45:00 | AV is almost useless at PREVENTING malware & virus infections. Ive seen malware get past every well known brand of AV software. That just the reality, they just cant keep up with all the new malware being developed & will allways be 1 step behind. You also can do anything about user stupidity, thats why its often the same people getting their PC infected, over & over & over again. |
