(Never understand why they don't say they "died." :groan:) I would have thought that it would be more appropriate to remember the day that they were born - a much happier occasion. So why do they remember the day they died? It just does not make any sense. :illogical |

Look at many of the painters....they died broke, a lot of them, dead...suddenly their stuff is worth millions....singers, they may have done OK, dead, the music people start raving about their genius etc. As for passed, I hate that term. More so now as it has been said to me...oh your husband passed... No he passed nothing, wind, go, whatever. He died. I think it's a religious thing...passed over... Nope. Died. Ceased. Ended. Gone. |

He died in obscurity and poverty in 1669 . Johannes Vermeer Best known for his painting Girl with a Pearl Earring, Vermeer never gained recognition for his talent during his lifetime . . He was forced to borrow money from his family and after his death at the age of 43; his family was left penniless as well . Paul Gauguin Paul Gauguins work was considered risqué and exotic during his time and not appreciated for its primitive influences . Gauguin died of heart failure, alone in poverty .
