2021-05-26 09:06:00 | 3 or 4 times in the last 2 days my pc has just stopped as if the power went off. The power and reset buttons do nothing and oddly the rgb lighting stays on. I have to switch the psu off for a few seconds to make it go again. cpu Temps are fine, haven't checked any others as yet. I'm thinking the psu is the likely suspect, any other suggestions? PC is nearly 3 years old 650W cooler master mwe gold psu gigabyte gtx 1070 ryzen 2700x planning to try swapping the psu and cleaning out the dust this weekend.

2021-05-28 04:52:00 | Replaced the psu, so far no more power issues but now I'm getting micro pauses in game and losing audio sync with videos on YouTube, Netflix, vlc. Going to try reinstalling the audio drivers..... | dugimodo (138) | |
2021-05-29 03:00:00 | So, no more power problems touch wood..... BUT windows is a bit screwed up, I'm guessing some file corruption or something. As mention earlier having audio sync issues and micro pauses. got this from latency monitor 10923 which suggests it's a problem with the AHCI storport mini driver but I can find no way to fix it so far. SFC did something to corrupt files but didn't fix it, windows updates didn't help. I have an unrelated restorepoint that might be my next attempt. Currently backing up files in case I have to reinstall.

2021-05-29 23:49:00 | It sounds like the old PSU was faulty. It may have had high noise/ripple and damaged something else. | Agent_24 (57) | |
2021-05-30 00:16:00 | About to do a clean install, reset my pc using the windows tool and it seems ok to be honest but that latency tool still says it's screwed, not sure I trust it but the reset blew everything away anyway so now's the time for a clean install. FYI things that didn't work system restore SFC DISM reinstalled Audio & Video drivers Validated and reinstalled the game that was the worst affected All of which still left me with micro pauses and audio sync issues. The windows reset did appear to fix those, dunno what the latency tool is on about.

2021-05-30 08:58:00 | Soooo PC is fixed, fresh install of windows and a whole lot of software to reinstall over the next few days... Thought I'd killed it with a BIOS update after noticing the BIOS had reverted back to a 2018 version (weird, I know I updated it to the latest a month ago in case I buy a newer CPU - think the dual BIOS must have kicked in). So it turns out all the problems I've been having since swapping the PSU are down to a loose sata cable on the optical drive, which is both a relief and bloody annoying. The question I have now that I'd like some opinions on is do we think my PSU is faulty or could a sata cable cause sudden power loss? I don't think it's likely myself.
