1476529	2021-04-15 00:22:00	Hello all - i am out of date now with Gaming machines - looking to replace my son's box only - seen below at PBtech that looks ok - but a few questions 1) will those specs give him good level of gaming for 2-3 years 2) do i actually need another HHD with the 1TB SSD 3) any other thoughts please? Go to ComputerLounge, they upgrade... This is what you look at: www.tomshardware.com Top to bottom is order of performance. You want the topmost you can afford....(Remember any prices shown there are US, not NZ prices) Second: www.tomshardware.com CPU. 16Gb Ram is Ok but I've had that much for years...on a Linux box too. I'd double it. And ComputerLounge stick with Quality parts, which is the important part...my motherboard, for instance, is now 11 years old, not a hitch, not even the BIOS battery. You could save $1K or so if you just bought the CPU, motherboard, GPU and RAM and assuming the current case he has is compatible and there are no other "transferable" parts from his old rig (aside from storage)...not sure how comfortable you are with building it yourself... but that's how I'd do it. Whilst buying a "pre-built" "guarantees you get all the parts you need... it does come at a premium... If money is not an issue then yeah that pre-built is fine but if you want to spend less and can put it together yourself (or someone else can do it for you) then buy the individual components instead.... $1K is quite a chunk of change. It better be good at that price :) Whats good depends on your budget & what games you want to play , and at what resolution you want to play them. 1) will those specs give him good level of gaming for 2-3 years Who knows. Anything can change in 3 years . Plenty of people will still be gaming on lesser PC's that that I'd bet . 2) do i actually need another HHD with the 1TB SSD How long is a piece of string ? 1476533	2021-04-15 03:09:00	To be honest, I'd go with: Ryzen 5 3600 X570 Motherboard 16GB of 3200MHz RAM RTX3060 Works out to about $1700 or so. X570 is much better feature wise AND is compatible with current and last gen Ryzen CPUs compared to B450/550 - you can find a X570 for the same price as a B550 if you shop around. So get a last gen Ryzen CPU and you can still pop a 3rd Gen Ryzen in there within the next 2 years. Also if I'm not mistaken there is no "out of the box" support for Gen 3 Ryzen CPU's on B450... this does however depend on the motherboard vendor... so if you go B450, and you want to upgrade to Gen 3 Ryzen, you may have to also upgrade your motherboard, you won't have that issue with an X570 or B550 board though...I would still pick the X570 over the B550 any day. If you go X570 you have backward and forward compatibility with previous and current Ryzen CPU's... so spend less on the CPU and use that extra $$$ to get a more expensive X570 motherboard which will allow you to go to a Gen 3 CPU down the track.	chiefnz (545)
1476534	2021-04-15 06:41:00	so my 2c 1) yes 2) yes, or strictly speaking no but games are getting huge so it depends what he plays and if uninstalling old games to make room for new is an option 3) if you want an off the shelf pre build ready to go it's pretty solid if a little expensive. If you want to save some money see previous suggestions others have made. It's a bad time to buy in many ways, prices have been inflated for some time and there's a shortage of the latest CPU / GPU options. Buying the same graphics card separately might take a month or two with the wait times. If there were no shortages and prices were at recommended retail level I'd suggest an 5600X and 3060 combo but last I checked they still weren't available. The 6 core 5600X outgames the 8 core 3700X and matches it for production tasks.	dugimodo (138)

1476536	2021-04-15 13:25:00	Honestly with those specs, all you really need to do is upgrade the CPU and motherboard...Everything else is fine. 16GB of memory and a 2060 Super is more than enough horse power for 1080p (Ultra) and 1440p (High) Buy the 3700x and a X570 motherboard... no need to buy a complete system...	chiefnz (545)

Clean all the fans out. The Graphics card is lame. Look at the hierarchy chart I gave you a link to...miles down the list. Change it. That is the most important bit.
