| 1481428 | 2021-10-21 09:00:00 | I recently got "Enjoy the rest of your day" which might as well have been "Enjoy the rest of your life." Does this imply that I have not enjoyed my day or my life thus far or does it suggest that either my day or my life may be soon to end so I should enjoy it while I can. Or that despite the awful tragedy that has just befallen me, I should enjoy it anyway? What if I want to weep instead? |

| 1481429 | 2021-10-21 09:12:00 | My pet hate is (and it is NZ based) -"how is your day going /been?" or "How are you?" Especially if it is voiced by a stranger or a cold call sales person. My thoughts are "none of your business-I would tell you voluntarily if I wanted you to know" I find it so insincere. Most people just mumble good, good or some other silly trite expression. You could reply - "horrible I've had some really bad medical news " and the first person will say "that's good" because their question was meaningless and they are not really listening to what you say in reply. I prefer to just say hello or hi-not even "good morning" because you may be unaware that the other person is having anything but a good morning. I do realise that for many people these are just robotic sayings. I just say, "well, no good complaining because no one listens anyway! LL |

I genuinely mean it when I do greet people and I would be upset if I thought I had offended someone. Unfortunately, this seems to be the way society is going nowadays. However I shall keep on doing as I always have. If you meet me in the street please accept my greetings. Ken ;) |

People are offended by just about anything these days. And in many cases some people are being offended on behalf of someone else, in particular the do gooders in this country are often offended on behalf of the maoris. Why is that? Surely if the maoris were offended by what someone said or did, they could speak up for themselves?:rolleyes: |

| 1481435 | 2021-10-23 19:35:00 | Nowadays, when I get the perfunctory "'Ow are ya?" I generally reply that I can't remember (on the grounds that some things are better forgotten.) Or, "That is too hard a question. Ask me an easy one." I don't know if it makes the asker reflect on how meaningless their automatic greeting is. Sometimes I will just say "I don't know. Ask my doctor." Which doesn't quite work when it is the doctor asking the question. |
