| 1489384 | 2022-11-21 01:58:00 | The Keyboard on my Dell Inspiron 17 5000 is erratic. When I tap a key it sometimes does nothing, no particular key, random. Its a hell of a job to replace the keyboard, everything has to come out from the bottom. A replacement keyboard from China is under $100.00, but I don't want to do it all for nothing. There is no dirt, biscuits, or ants under the keys ;) Any ideas? |

| 1489387 | 2022-11-21 05:04:00 | Test with a USB keyboard, or use it as a permanent replacement. I spilt alcohol all over my laptop and the keyboard never recovered from it, random characters, no characters, etc. I have reseated the cables, etc but it will require proper cleaning or replacement. Until then,I just use a USB keyboard. Cheers, Kame |

I would guess the keyboard being at fault is more likely, if the motherboard was bad it likely wouldn't work at all. Re-seating the ribbon cable as mentioned by zqwerty would be a good idea I'd say. Trying a USB keyboard etc will likely only rule out a software problem? |
