2022-11-07 20:59:00 | I tried that too. Epsons one. Claim of 3,600 pages in black / 6,500 pages in colour It did 1300 pages the bloody liars. Remember those figures are based on something like 5% coverage (so probably a page of text and nothing else). If you add graphics and photos, that will take the page count down a lot.

2022-11-08 18:14:00 | I am looking at websites to try to select what seems to be suitable replacement, and I see that several do not have USB connectivity, and I am not sure if my system can cope. It is connected to the router by a lan cable, and the router has wi-fi output. Can anyone help? | Brucem (8688) | |
2022-11-08 19:17:00 | If a Printer has an Ethernet port, then that can be plugged into the router as a network Printer, but the cheap printers generally don't have that option. Wireless - The Printer connects to the Router Via your wireless not to the PC. Sometimes when setting up the printers you have to use a USB temporally to make the connection with wireless as some don't always detect correctly, ALWAYS pays to use the manufactures FULL software package as that has the wireless drivers /Software. You'll have to download it from their site as most don't come with a CD these days.

2022-11-10 04:51:00 | My Brother colour laser is now 10 years old and on its fourth set of toners, haven't brought genuine ones as the originals outlived the warranty and so have only ever put computerfood ones in as replacements. SWMBO uses it several times a week working for her son part time and I use it irregularly. We have been more than happy with the costs compared to the old inkjets. | gary67 (56) | |
2022-11-13 18:08:00 | I have bought a new printer, a Brother DCP-J1050DW, it does what I need. With regard to the old one, why cannot the manufacturers say what error messages mean? A message that says "restart printer, error 000025, consult documentation". What documentation? Couldn't they say something like "the paper jam caused irreparable damage, the printer sould be relpaced." | Brucem (8688) | |
2022-11-13 19:24:00 | They aren't likely to be able to pinpoint the exact cause of the problem, usually. Error 000025 (or whatever) might basically mean "Mechanism X not responding correctly" which could be due to a paper jam, a dead cockroach stuck in the gears, physical damage, dirty/damaged sensor, bad drive electronics. etc etc etc. It's impossible for them to know the exact cause in every single case. Even an actual paper-jam error may not always be caused by a paper jam. I jammed my printer once by running what I thought was an OHT but wasn't. It said paper jam. It was actually a melted plastic jam. I had to pull the printer apart and pick all the little bits of plastic off the fuser roller. Worked fine after that, though!
