1489027 2022-10-22 22:23:00 Are paintball guns legal to use in city suburbs??.

We are receiving yellow pellets from over the back fence, one even splatting the house from 60feet away from boundary fence.

Can I reply with a "shanghai" or slingshot?. lol.

1489029 2022-10-23 02:10:00 They count as air guns these days so the rules around air guns should also apply. You may want to ask you neighbours to put up something to catch the pellets. Depends how you get along with them I guess.

Rules here safershooting.co.nz

It is quite legal to shoot air pistols and air rifles in your section or house; PROVIDING:

You are over 18, or have a gun license, or someone over 18 supervises the shooting.
You have a safe area to shoot in. (You have a safety zone and no-one can be potentially injured by ricochets, and nor can anyone walk into the shooting zone while you are shooting.)
The pellets are contained within your property ie: you have a suitable impact area or bullet trap.
The neighbours do not feel threatened. (May be a good idea to discuss this with them!) You need to make sure that airguns are NOT pointed in the neighbour’s direction, and that any noise is kept to a minimum.

1489030 2022-10-23 09:01:00 Thks dug that's what I was looking for.

Did notice the anomaly in the police articles I looked at, under 15 one needs a licence and over 18 is ok, poor 16 & 17 old don't come into it.

Laws are written by lawyers, primarily to benefit the legal profession. If laws were to be written simply and clearly anybody could follow the intent; then we'd have mass unemployment with all manner of legal industry persons wandering about like lost sheep and causing even more mischief than they do at present. (Difficult as that may sound.) It's bad enough letting civil servants and politicians go free-range. Loose lawyers, by and large unsuited for any real task, form an undesirable cross for society to bear. That position is already oversupplied by OSH.

To clarify, basically . .
18+ buy, use and own an airgun . (No licence required)
16 & 17 buy, use and own an airgun . (require licence)
Under 16 Can only use an airgun under direct supervision of either of the above .

So the 16 & 17 years olds are covered .
