| 1489015 | 2022-10-21 04:09:00 | Just lately, and I don't know why, many of my desktop shortcut icons have started opening MS Edge, rather than the program they are supposed to point to. In addition to this when I try to set a new icon from Google, installing the new program as an app, it changes to opening in MS Explorer!!! Bloody Hell, can't we be rid of this damned browser? And yes, Edge is set as the default. So what on earth is going on here? Anyone got any ideas? | Richard (739) | ||
| 1489016 | 2022-10-21 04:22:00 | What could have happened is when Edge upgraded it made itself the default opener. For example, it will open Web Shortcuts ( urls) PDF files and many others. To change to whatever you want, go into the default programs (depending on what version of windows will depend on where the exact setting is) there's a slight difference between W10 & 11. In Default programs find the actual app, for example if you want PDF's select pdf - change to make whatever your PDF view is. Example WITH pdf Another way -- IF you know it's a PDF, right click the PDF, open with - Select (down bottom of list) Show more options (w11) - Choose another App - Select your desired app - make sure you put a tick in the box bottom left " Always use this app------" Click OK, all the PDF files will now change INSTANTLY to the selected App and open in it. |
